After weeks of speculation, it is now confirmed that a film documenting Ajith Kumar's racing career is in development, with Director AL Vijay at the helm. The project, expected to offer a close look into Ajith's dedication to motorsports, is planned for a direct Over-The-Top (OTT) release next year.
Director AL Vijay confirmed his involvement, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to capture the "do or die" moments of Ajith's racing journey. "Ajith and Suresh Chandra sir wanted me to do this," Vijay stated. He recounted Ajith's words on the first day of filming: "Welcome to my world". Vijay added, "This is not what we think, it's a completely different world altogether".
Ajith Kumar, a prominent figure in Tamil cinema with over 63 films, has balanced his acting career with a passion for racing. He has participated in the MRF Racing series and competed in circuits across India, and is one of the few Indians to race internationally in Formula championships. In 2025, Ajith debuted with his own team, "Ajith Kumar Racing," in the 24H Series, marking his return to racing after a 15-year gap. He and his team secured third place in the 991 category.
Vijay has been filming Ajith at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, during the Asian Le Mans Series. Viral videos showed Vijay and Adhik Ravichandran, director of Ajith's upcoming film Good Bad Ugly, managing the crowds who came to see the actor. Vijay is employing a three-camera setup and shooting in 4K resolution to capture the high-stakes environment of motorsports. He highlighted the demanding nature of racing, noting the necessity for quick driver changes within 20 seconds, requiring both fitness and mental preparation.
Ajith's commitment to racing is significant, dedicating a large portion of his time to the sport. He is reportedly investing significant time in racing, aiming for bigger milestones, and has built a team to support his endeavors. Currently, he spends approximately 30% to 40% of his time on film commitments. Ajith is also scheduled to begin shooting for AK64 with Adhik Ravichandran in February of next year.
The documentary aims to showcase Ajith's dedication and hard work, with Vijay expressing increased respect for both Ajith and the sport after witnessing his efforts firsthand. Vijay believes Ajith will be regarded as a motorsports icon in India.
