Suniel Shetty Rejects Rs 40 Crore Tobacco Ad: Prioritizing Values Over Financial Gain and Endorsement.

In a bold stance against harmful endorsements, veteran Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty recently revealed that he declined an offer of ₹40 crore to promote a tobacco brand. The actor, known for his fitness and healthy lifestyle, stated that his values and the impact on his children were more important than the substantial sum.

Shetty, in a recent interview with Peeping Moon, addressed the topic of celebrities endorsing tobacco products, a practice he has consciously avoided throughout his career. Even with actors like Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt associated with tobacco or liquor brands, Shetty has remained firm in his conviction. He stated, "I have been offered Rs 40 crore for a tobacco ad. I looked at him and said, 'Do you think I will fall for the money? I won't'". He further explained, "I probably needed that money, but no, I won't do it. It is something that I don't believe in".

The actor emphasized that he would never endorse products that could negatively impact his children, Ahan and Athiya. "I won't do anything that will leave a blemish on Ahan and Athiya. Now nobody even dares to come to me with such offers," he asserted.

Shetty, despite acknowledging that he may not be as "relevant" in terms of box office success, recognizes his influence on younger generations. "I am not relevant when it comes to cinema or box office, but still 17–18 year olds look up to me. I get so much love and respect, it is amazing," he said. This sense of responsibility towards his younger fans further solidifies his decision to reject endorsements that promote harmful products.

The actor's commitment to health extends beyond just avoiding endorsements. Shetty has always been known for his fitness and healthy lifestyle. In an earlier interview, he stated that he has never consumed tobacco in his life, attributing his good health to this lifestyle choice. "People tell me I am 60 but I am not old yet, this is the reason," he said.

Shetty's decision also reflects his long-held values instilled by his middle-class upbringing. He recalled how his parents emphasized saving and building for the future, which shaped his approach to money. "There was the occasional temptation to succumb to the allures of a flashy lifestyle, but my middle-class values ensured that I looked at most money decisions from a long term lens," he explained. He also added that his wife, Mana Shetty, shares a similar mindset, which has helped them remain disciplined with their spending and investments.

Beyond acting, Shetty has established himself as a successful entrepreneur with investments in various sectors, including hospitality, real estate, and startups. As of 2024, his net worth is estimated to be around $11 million (approximately ₹90 crore), a result of his diverse income streams. He owns a production company called Popcorn Entertainment and has invested in health-tech, wellness nutrition, and fitness brands.

Suniel Shetty's decision to reject the tobacco ad offer underscores his unwavering commitment to his values and his dedication to setting a positive example for his fans and children. His actions demonstrate that for some, principles outweigh financial gain, solidifying his image as a responsible and respected figure in the Indian film industry.
