Production is underway for HBO's highly anticipated "Harry Potter" series, and fans are eager for a return to the wizarding world of Hogwarts. Warwick Davis, known for his role as Professor Filius Flitwick in the original "Harry Potter" films, has revealed that the upcoming show will remain faithful to the books written by J.K. Rowling.
Davis, who also played Griphook in the original films, will reprise his role as Professor Flitwick in the HBO series. In an interview with Times Radio, Davis shared that the episodes will be "very faithful adaptations" of the books. He added that the series would retell the "wonderful stories" with more depth and detail than previously seen.
While Davis is returning to the familiar role of Professor Flitwick, Leigh Gill will take over the character of Griphook. The new series will feature an almost entirely new cast. Dominic McLaughlin will play the lead protagonist, Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione, and Alastair Stout will be Ron. Other cast members include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, and Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley.
Davis spoke on what it was like returning to Warner Bros. Leavesden Studios where the original "Harry Potter" films were shot. He said that while telling the same story, the experience felt different. Davis noted, "We're obviously telling the same story so there are similar moments that we're experiencing as actors on the set. But it's weird being back in the same studios again, doing it all again, because Leavesden is where we shot the films".
The "Harry Potter" films are beloved by fans, but many felt that some important details from the books were missed or changed. Davis's comments about the HBO series being a faithful adaptation have sparked excitement among fans, who are hopeful that the show will include content that was cut from the movies due to time constraints. The series format allows for more exploration of characters, magical elements, and settings.
The "Harry Potter" series is set to premiere in 2027 on HBO. In addition to the upcoming series, the books have been relaunched as an all-cast Audible series. The Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets premiered on Audible on December 16, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is set to follow on January 13.
