Genelia Deshmukh and Emraan Hashmi Team Up for 'Gunmaaster G9,' Marking a Fresh Start On Set.

Mumbai, January 22, 2026 – Genelia Deshmukh has announced the start of shooting for her upcoming action film, "Gunmaaster G9," alongside Emraan Hashmi and Aparshakti Khurana. The actress shared the news with her fans on Thursday via Instagram, posting a glimpse of her character's look from the sets.

Deshmukh, known for her bubbly and endearing roles, sports a cool and stylish look with a colored fringe hairstyle in the picture. "New beginning. #GunmaasterG9," she captioned the post, expressing her excitement for the project.

"Gunmaaster G9" is directed by Aditya Datt and is anticipated to be an action-packed entertainer. The film is expected to be released in 2026.

Last year, in July 2025, the makers released an announcement teaser that quickly grabbed attention. The teaser featured a video of a mysterious hand pulling a gun from a bucket of milk, accompanied by Emraan Hashmi's voice in a dramatic tone: "Mujhe mach mach kiya, chalega. Galti se family ko touch kiya toh yaad rakhna, dhandhe se doodh waala hun, banda baroodwala hun." This translates to: "You messed with me--fine. But if you mess with my family by mistake, remember this: I may be in the milk business, but I'm a man who deals with gunpowder".

Another teaser clip showed a woman's hand pulling out a knife, with Genelia's voice in the background saying, "I'm the daughter-in-law of the house. But it doesn't mean I'm only gentle and soft. If there are vegetables at home, I'll chop them. However, if goons and thugs show up, I won't just be chopping vegetables". Aparshakti Khurana added to the teasers with his own flavor, introducing his role with, "Lohe Ki Kathi, Desu Rathi".

This film marks a reunion for Emraan Hashmi with director Aditya Datt and music composer Himesh Reshammiya, the trio behind the hit film "Aashiq Banaya Aapne".

Producer Deepak Mukut has said that "Gunmaaster G9" will present Genelia Deshmukh in a never-before-seen avatar, different from her previous roles. Mukut also mentioned that Genelia's husband, Riteish Deshmukh, convinced her to take on the role. Genelia herself stated that her character is layered and offers her a lot of scope to perform, allowing her to break away from her girl-next-door image.

The film had an initial five-day shooting schedule in Mumbai in August 2025. After a break, the team is scheduled to regroup and commence an extensive shooting schedule in Haridwar and Mussourie. The makers aim to complete the shoot by November 2025, targeting an early 2026 release.

"Gunmaaster G9" seems to be a reboot of the Gunmaster G9 character played by Mithun Chakraborty in the 1979 film "Surakksha" and its 1981 sequel "Wardat". The film is presented as a new-age action drama, with Emraan Hashmi playing a gun-toting "doodhwala" (milkman), Genelia Deshmukh wielding what appears to be a Chinese knife, and Aparshakti Khurana with a hand grenade.
