The excitement surrounding Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster, is reaching fever pitch with the confirmation of a cameo appearance by acclaimed Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi. Fans are thrilled at the prospect of seeing Sethupathi share screen space with superstar Rajinikanth once again.
Sethupathi revealed his decision to join the project was driven by his admiration for Rajinikanth. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Sethupathi stated that he accepted the cameo role because of his love and respect for Rajinikanth, citing the opportunity to learn from the superstar as a key motivator. He has also mentioned how much he values the experiences and lessons one can gain from being around someone with Rajinikanth's enduring legacy. Sethupathi, who has been selective about villainous roles and cameos, made a special exception for Rajinikanth. He mentioned that he generally avoids cameos and villain roles but couldn't resist the opportunity to work with Rajinikanth.
This marks the reunion of the two actors after their successful collaboration in the 2019 action drama Petta, where Sethupathi played the antagonist, Jithu. Their face-off in Petta was a major highlight, and fans have eagerly anticipated another on-screen collaboration since then.
Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, promises to be a mass entertainer, with Rajinikanth reprising his role as Muthuvel Pandian, the no-nonsense police officer. The film boasts an ensemble cast including actors Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, SJ Suryah, Yogi Babu, Vinayakan and Suraj Venjaramoodu. There's also speculation of a cameo appearance by Shah Rukh Khan. Other cast members include Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, and Ramya Krishnan.
The movie is currently in production and is slated for release on June 12th, 2026. The first film, Jailer, was a major commercial success, cementing Rajinikanth's status as a box office king. The sequel is expected to continue the action-packed legacy of its predecessor, with a narrative that expands upon the character's universe.
