Marvel's upcoming series, Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, has officially been slated for release on Disney+ on January 27, 2026. The series, consisting of eight episodes, was initially expected to premiere in December 2025, but Marvel Studios decided to push it back to avoid competition with holiday programming.
Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel TV and animation, explained that the shift was strategic, stating, "We don't want it to get swallowed up by people watching 'Home Alone' and 'Die Hard' and 'Elf'". The series will be part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and released under the "Marvel Spotlight" banner.
The show centers on Simon Williams, portrayed by Abdul-Mateen II, an actor and stuntman navigating the challenges of Hollywood while grappling with newfound superpowers. Wonder Man explores themes of fame, ambition, and identity as Simon seeks his big break. The series has been described as a "love letter to Hollywood," delving into the struggles of artists balancing their creative passions with the need to make a living.
Returning to the MCU is Ben Kingsley, reprising his role as Trevor Slattery. Slattery, an aspiring actor himself, finds camaraderie with Simon as they navigate the eccentricities of the entertainment industry.
The cast also includes Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams, Simon's brother, also known as Grim Reaper; Ed Harris as Neal Saroyan, Simon's agent; and Arian Moayed reprising his role as P. Cleary. Other cast members include Zlatko Burić, Lauren Glazier, Josh Gad, Byron Bowers, Béchir Sylvain, and Manny McCord. Zlatko Burić plays Von Kovak, the director of the original Wonder Man film and its remake within the series.
The series is created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, with Guest serving as showrunner. Cretton also directs the first two episodes. Production began in Los Angeles in early April 2023 but was halted in late May due to the Writers Guild of America strike. Filming resumed in early January 2024 and concluded by April.
Marvel Television unveiled the first trailer for Wonder Man at New York Comic Con 2025, offering a glimpse into the meta and comedic tone of the series. The trailer showcases Simon's journey as he auditions, hustles, and forms an alliance with Trevor Slattery.
Wonder Man will premiere on Disney+ on January 27, 2026, at 6 PM PT.
