Farah Khan, the well-known filmmaker and choreographer, recently shared a humorous anecdote about a case of mistaken identity involving her husband, Shirish Kunder. During a conversation with Soha Ali Khan, Farah recounted a family vacation incident where Shirish was mistaken for her son.
Farah explained that the incident occurred when she was, in her own words, "literally overweight". While on holiday with their children, a hotel staff member approached them. The staff member, assuming Shirish was a child, asked if he could step out of the room so that it could be cleaned. Shirish, known for his good humor, found the misunderstanding quite amusing. He went on to tell their kids that someone thought he was their brother.
The incident, as Farah revealed, became a turning point for her. It made her realize that she needed to start taking better care of herself. "So I realised that after 50, I have to look after myself," she stated.
In the same conversation, Farah also reflected on her priorities over the years. She admitted that, prior to turning 50, self-care and appearance were not high on her list. She confessed to being so engrossed in her work that she didn't even have time for basic grooming. Long hours on set, juggling day and night shifts, left her with little time to focus on herself.
However, after crossing the age of 50, Farah consciously made the decision to prioritize her well-being. She likened the human body to an aging car that requires more frequent servicing. "When the car gets old, it needs more servicing, so send it to the garage," she said, emphasizing the need for self-care as one ages. This change in perspective led her to consult a skin doctor regularly and take hair vitamins. She also embarked on a weight loss journey, taking seven years to reach her goals.
Farah Khan married Shirish Kunder in December 2004, after reportedly dating for four years. She was 43 when she had her kids. She also spoke about the emotional complexities of late pregnancy. In an earlier discussion with Sania Mirza, she had detailed her IVF journey, explaining how the first two attempts were unsuccessful. The third round finally resulted in a successful pregnancy with triplets, but it brought immense discomfort.
Farah's candid discussion with Soha Ali Khan offers a refreshing perspective on the importance of self-care and the humorous moments that life throws our way. Her story is a reminder that it's never too late to prioritize one's well-being and that a good sense of humor can help navigate even the most unexpected situations.
