Shah Rukh Khan, the iconic star of the classic Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), recently surprised the cast of Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical during their rehearsals in London. The musical, a stage adaptation of the beloved 1995 film, is directed by Aditya Chopra, who also directed the original movie. The musical is set to premiere at the Manchester Opera House from May 29 to June 21, 2025.

Khan's unannounced visit to the rehearsal room was met with excitement and appreciation from the cast and crew. The actors were starstruck by the presence of the Bollywood icon, who played Raj in the original film.

Jena Pandya, who plays Simran in the musical, shared her excitement about meeting Khan. "Meeting Shah Rukh Khan and having him in the rehearsal room was such an honor," she said. "Being able to show him some of the iconic scenes that himself and Kajol originally established was an incredible feeling and will be a long-lasting memory for me".

Ashley Day, who plays Rog, a character inspired by Raj, described Khan's visit as a "moment that quietly landed on all of us—special in a way that didn't need words". He added, "He greeted us all with such love and genuine excitement about what we've been building". Day also said, "The words we shared privately are for one Raj to another Rog—but I will say, he was very happy. It was an unbelievable afternoon. I'll never forget it".

The musical is set in both the UK and India, much like the film, and reimagines the love story for a global audience. Come Fall in Love features music by Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani, choreography by Rob Ashford, and Indian dance co-choreography by Shruti Merchant. The book and lyrics are by Nell Benjamin.

According to Sheykhar Ravjiani, Khan's visit was a pleasant surprise for the entire cast and crew. He stated that everyone could feel Khan's love for theatre and the craft. Vishal added that Khan loved the songs, voices, and the energy of the performances. Khan also shared stories from his own theatre background and expressed his happiness in seeing DDLJ come to life on stage.

Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical is set to premiere at the Manchester Opera House on May 29, 2025, and will run until June 21. A press night will be held on June 4. The musical is a celebration of the classic Bollywood love story and is expected to captivate both old and new audiences.
