Rashmika Mandanna is currently filming "Thama" in Ooty, a horror-comedy co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The film, part of the Maddock Supernatural Universe, is slated for a Diwali 2025 release.
"Thama" narrates the tale of a determined historian who immerses himself in ancient manuscripts, uncovering dark secrets about local vampire myths as supernatural forces begin to stir. The movie is a love story wrapped in a horror-comedy, revolving around a determined historian who uncovers dark secrets related to local vampire myths as supernatural forces begin to awaken. The screenplay is penned by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Fulara. Alongside Rashmika and Ayushmann, the film features veteran actors Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in important roles, promising a strong ensemble cast.
Aditya Sarpotdar revealed that "Thama" isn't a typical horror-comedy but also a romantic comedy with mythical references, making it a thrilling human-vampire love story, different from other Maddock Supernatural Universe films. He said that while "Munjya" was deeply rooted in folklore, "Thama" has mythical references and draws references from mythical characters. Sarpotdar said, “Thama is a love story...this is very different and not a pure horror-comedy...Vampire is a supernatural element; it is a love story between a human and a vampire. The larger genre is comedy, so it is fun and a love story through the lens of Maddock Universe."
The film is special for Rashmika, as she has worked on horror comedy sequences like never before. The chemistry between her and Ayushmann is also something to watch out for. The team is confident that the film will offer something fresh to audiences.
Rashmika was last seen in the Salman Khan starrer 'Sikandar', directed by AR Murugadoss, which was released on Eid this year.
