The Tamil film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Rajesh, who passed away in Chennai on May 29, 2025, at the age of 75. Known for his versatile roles in over 150 films across Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu cinema, Rajesh's career spanned five decades, leaving an indelible mark on South Indian cinema.

Rajesh's death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fellow actors, directors, and fans alike. Among those expressing their sorrow is superstar Rajinikanth, a long-time friend of the late actor. Rajinikanth took to social media platform X to convey his heartfelt condolences, stating that he was "shocked" and felt a "great heartache" upon hearing the news of Rajesh's passing. In his message, Rajinikanth described Rajesh as a "wonderful man" and extended his deepest sympathies to Rajesh's family and friends.

Rajesh, born on December 20, 1949, in Mannargudi, Tiruvarur district, initially worked as a school teacher before pursuing his passion for acting. He made his debut in the film industry with a small role in K. Balachander's critically acclaimed film "Aval Oru Thodarkathai" in 1974. He went on to star in numerous films, showcasing his versatility in both lead and supporting roles. Some of his notable works include "Thanneer Thanneer," "Andha 7 Naatkal," and "Payanangal Mudivadhillai." His ability to seamlessly transition between roles and languages earned him widespread recognition and respect within the industry. Rajesh also ventured into television, appearing in popular shows like "Alagai," "Roja," and "Poove Unakkaga."

Throughout his career, Rajesh shared the screen with leading stars like Kamal Haasan and Vijay, solidifying his position as a prominent figure in South Indian cinema. Beyond acting, Rajesh also demonstrated his talents as a dubbing artist, writer, and television personality. His final film appearance was in the Hindi thriller "Merry Christmas," released in 2023, where he acted alongside Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif.

The news of Rajesh's death has resonated deeply within the film fraternity. Actress Radhika Sarathkumar also expressed her condolences on X, remembering Rajesh as a knowledgeable and respected figure. She reflected on their collaborations and acknowledged the void his passing leaves in the industry.

Rajesh is survived by his daughter, Divya, and son, Deepak. His wife, Joan Sylvia Vanathirayar, passed away in 2012. His body has been kept at his residence in Rampuram, Chennai, for the public to pay their last respects. The funeral arrangements will be made after his daughter's return from the United States.
