In the wake of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of 241 people, comedian and actor Vir Das has voiced his support for the airline and its crew. The crash, involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London, occurred shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, triggering widespread criticism of Air India's maintenance practices.

Amidst the criticism, Das took to social media to share his condolences and express his support for the airline crew. "It's a tragic day for so many families. And all our thoughts and prayers are with them," he wrote. "I just wanted to add my support for the crew. I've flown Air India all my life. It is not an airline without problems but without fail, I know them to be the best crew in the sky."

Das acknowledged the airline's imperfections but emphasized his positive experiences with the crew throughout his years of flying with Air India. "Time will tell what happened on this tragic flight," he added. "I cannot imagine how hard it is for them to do their job right now having lost their own. For the crew, just to say one stands with you. And hopes to see you soon on a flight."

His message comes at a time when Air India is facing intense scrutiny, with many questioning the airline's safety protocols and maintenance standards. A passenger who had traveled on the same aircraft just hours before the crash posted a video highlighting malfunctioning air conditioning, a faulty call button, and stagnant in-flight screens.

Das's support for Air India has sparked mixed reactions, with some appreciating his empathy and others questioning his timing. However, his statement has also highlighted the human element amidst the technical investigations and blame-pointing. Many are acknowledging the difficult position the Air India crew are in, having lost colleagues and facing immense pressure.

The government has initiated an investigation into the crash, and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site to assess the situation. Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences, describing the tragedy as "devastating and heartbreaking beyond words."

While the investigation is underway, Das's message serves as a reminder of the human cost of the tragedy and the importance of supporting those who are directly affected. His words offer a counterpoint to the widespread criticism, acknowledging the professionalism and dedication of the Air India crew.
