"Jurassic World Rebirth," starring Scarlett Johansson, is dominating the box office in China, marking a significant achievement for Hollywood in 2025. The film, directed by Gareth Edwards, has not only exceeded expectations but has also propelled Johansson to become the highest-grossing actor worldwide.
The film earned USD 2.7 million in China on its first Tuesday, registering the biggest first Tuesday of 2025 for a Hollywood movie. It surpassed "Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning" (USD 2.1 million) to claim the top spot. By the end of its sixth day, "Jurassic World Rebirth" had grossed $47.2 million in China. The film is expected to surpass the USD 50 million mark by the end of its opening week.
"Jurassic World Rebirth" recorded a $25.8 million three-day weekend and a $41.6 million five-day opening in China. Despite this strong performance, it still trails "Jurassic World Dominion's" $53 million three-day opening in 2022. The film's success wasn't limited to mainland China. Globally, "Rebirth" roared to a $318.3 million opening, surpassing even "A Minecraft Movie's" previous 2025 record. The film has earned $147.3 million in its first five days in North American theaters. Internationally, the movie added $171 million to the opening total. According to the studio, $41.5 million of that came from China alone, where it played on 65,000 screens, 760 of which were IMAX. It's the country's biggest MPA (Motion Picture Association) opening of the year.
"Jurassic World Rebirth" has registered Hollywood's biggest debut since "Venom: The Last Dance's" $45.7 million five-day opening in China. The film outmuscled "Mission Impossible 8," which opened to $20 million earlier in 2025. IMAX viewers contributed a hefty $5.5 million to the total haul in China.
The film's strong performance in China is particularly noteworthy given the declining interest in American titles in the Chinese market. The Jurassic series, along with Mission: Impossible, continues to draw crowds. Other top-grossing regions for the film included the United Kingdom ($16.6 million) and Mexico ($14 million).
With the success of "Jurassic World: Rebirth," Scarlett Johansson has become the highest-grossing actor globally, with her films generating a cumulative $14.8 billion worldwide. Johansson stars as Zora Bennett in the film, marking her first appearance in the Jurassic franchise, taking the lead from Chris Pratt. Johansson has managed to surpass Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr. with just 36 films compared to Jackson's 71 and Downey Jr.'s 45. Johansson's average worldwide gross is $405.9m (£298m), ahead of Jackson's $205.7m (£151m) and Downey Jr's $318.1m (£233.5).
