Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar has been laid to rest in Lahore. The actress's body was discovered in her Karachi apartment in a decomposed state. A court bailiff, executing an eviction notice for unpaid rent, found her remains. Initial investigations suggest she may have died around October 2024.
The post-mortem examination revealed the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. Forensic experts estimate that death occurred approximately 8-10 months before the examination. Due to the decomposition, the exact cause of death could not be immediately determined. Medical officers have reserved their opinion pending further chemical, histopathological, and DNA analysis. Samples including hair, bones, blood, and swabs have been preserved for further investigation.
The post-mortem report described the grim condition of the remains. Facial features were completely eroded, and muscle tissue was absent from most areas. The brain matter had completely liquified, and internal organs had deteriorated into a black-colored mass. The cartilage in joints was absent, but no fractures were detected in the bones. Investigators found insects in the remains, particularly in the hair, though no maggots were present.
Humaira's funeral took place in Model Town, Lahore. Close family members, including her father, brother, and paternal uncle, attended the burial. Her brother and brother-in-law brought the body to Lahore from Karachi.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Humaira's death. While foul play has not been ruled out, initial reports suggest no foul play is suspected. Police are awaiting toxicology and forensic reports to learn more. The apartment next door had been empty, which may explain why neighbors did not notice any suspicious smell or activity for months. The last text message on Humaira's phone was from an online ride-hailing service, and there had been no further digital communication since then. Her last WhatsApp "last seen" was on October 7, while a message sent to her by stylist Danish Maqsood on October 20 remains unread. Expired food items in her fridge were dated September 2024, and power to her apartment was cut off in October 2024 due to non-payment.
