Tim Burton, 67, and Monica Bellucci, 60, have announced their separation after two years together. The couple shared the news in a joint statement released on Friday, September 19, 2025, stating they have decided to "part ways with much respect and deep care for each other".

The relationship between the "Edward Scissorhands" director and the Italian actress began in 2023. However, their initial encounter dates back to 2006, when they briefly met on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in France. At the time, both were in committed relationships with other people.

Their paths crossed again 16 years later at the Lumière Festival in Lyon, France, in October 2022, where Bellucci presented Burton with an award. The pair were later spotted holding hands in Madrid. They officially confirmed their relationship in October 2023 while attending the Rome Film Festival.

In June 2023, Bellucci spoke about her relationship with Burton, telling Elle France, "I'm glad I met the man, first of all... It's one of those encounters that rarely happens in life". She added, "I know the man, I love him, and now I'm going to meet the director, another adventure begins. I love Tim. And I have great respect for Tim Burton". The couple was last seen together in June at the 71st Taormina Film Festival in Sicily.

Bellucci starred in Burton's 2024 film, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," a sequel to the 1988 classic. In the film, she played Delores, the ex-wife of Michael Keaton's character. This was the first time the pair had worked together on a film project.

Prior to this relationship, Burton was in a 14-year relationship with Helena Bonham Carter, from 2001 to 2014. Although they never married, they have two children together: a 21-year-old son, Billy, and a 17-year-old daughter, Nell. They famously lived in separate houses next door to each other. Bellucci was married to French actor Vincent Cassel from 1999 to 2013. They have two daughters: Deva, 21, and Léonie, 15.
