Mumbai, November 24, 2025 – Veteran actor Dharmendra, lovingly known as Bollywood's 'He-Man', passed away today at the age of 89. The actor's last rites were held at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai, where family, friends, and a multitude of film industry colleagues gathered to pay their final respects. Among those present was actor Govinda, who was seen arriving to bid farewell to the legendary actor.
Dharmendra had been admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month due to respiratory issues and was discharged on November 12. He had been unwell for some time.
Govinda, visibly moved, was among the numerous celebrities who attended the funeral to pay their respects. Other notable personalities included Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Esha Deol, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Salim Khan, Rajkumar Santoshi, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.
The news of Dharmendra's demise has sent a wave of grief throughout the Indian film industry and among his countless fans. Tributes have been pouring in from all corners, with many remembering him not only as an iconic actor but also as a warm and humble human being.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned his loss, stating that Dharmendra was admired for his simplicity, humility, and warmth and that his passing marked the end of an era in Indian cinema. Rahul Gandhi also shared a heartfelt tribute, acknowledging Dharmendra's unparalleled contribution to cinema over nearly seven decades. Mamata Banerjee expressed her sadness, noting that his immense contribution to Indian cinema would continue to inspire generations.
Several Bollywood celebrities shared their sentiments on social media. Karan Johar described Dharmendra as "a massive mega star" and "the embodiment of a hero," emphasizing his immense love and positivity. Kajol remembered him as "The OG of the Good Man," highlighting his kindness. Kareena Kapoor Khan shared throwback pictures of Dharmendra with Raj Kapoor, while Kiara Advani posted a black-and-white picture of the veteran actor.
Dharmendra's career spanned over six decades, during which he appeared in more than 300 films. Some of his most memorable roles were in films like Sholay, Phool Aur Patthar, Satyakam, Chupke Chupke, and Dharam Veer. His powerful screen presence earned him the titles "He-Man of Bollywood," "Garam Dharam," and "Action King". In addition to acting, Dharmendra also produced films and served as a Member of Parliament. In 2012, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award.
Dharmendra is survived by his wife Hema Malini, and his children Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, Vijeta Deol, and Ajeeta Deol. The film fraternity and fans alike mourn the loss of a true legend whose impact on Indian cinema will be remembered for generations to come.
