The Indian film industry and fans worldwide are mourning the loss of veteran actor Dharmendra, who passed away on Monday morning at the age of 89. Tributes have been pouring in from all corners, celebrating his remarkable career and his impact on Indian cinema. Among those paying their respects is actress Juhi Chawla, who fondly remembered the actor and his contribution to Bollywood.

Juhi Chawla, reflecting on Dharmendra's iconic presence, stated, "When I was a child, I watched 'Sholay' so many times… the drunken Veeru on the village water tanker proposing to Basanti, Veeru in the temple behind Shivji fooling Basanti, Veeru & Jai on the scooter singing Ye Dosti… Dharamji was a born superstar." She emphasized his innate ability to light up the screen with his "good looks, romance, strength, and humour," further adding that his "enigmatic presence lit up the silver screen".

Dharmendra's career began in the early 1960s, after winning a talent contest. He went on to become a household name, celebrated for his powerful performances and charismatic presence. He received numerous accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award. His filmography includes a wide array of successful movies, and his ability to connect with audiences made him a timeless figure.

Many other personalities have shared their condolences. Virat Kohli paid tribute on social media, acknowledging Dharmendra as "a legend of Indian cinema who captivated hearts with his charm and his talent". He added, "A true icon who inspired everyone who watched him". Prime Minister Narendra Modi recognized Dharmendra's passing as "the end of an era," and praised his simplicity, humility, and warmth.

The cricketing world has also mourned the loss, with former cricketer Virender Sehwag noting, "Dharmendra ji was not just an actor, he was an era". He lauded the actor's simplicity and strength, emphasizing that his legacy would be remembered for generations. Harbhajan Singh highlighted Dharmendra's grace and warmth, noting that his performances and spirit would remain etched in the memories of many.

Several IPL teams also joined in mourning. The Punjab Kings shared a message in Punjabi, celebrating the actor's legacy. Kolkata Knight Riders posted nostalgic images of Dharmendra, including one with co-owners Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla. Delhi Capitals also expressed their condolences.

Dharmendra was last seen in the movie Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya in 2024 and is set to appear in the upcoming film Ikkis.
