Following an intense and productive shoot schedule in Varanasi, India, global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas has returned to her home in Los Angeles, California. The actress had been in India filming for SS Rajamouli's highly anticipated film, "Varanasi," a globe-trotting action-adventure set for release in 2027.
Chopra Jonas's return to Los Angeles marks the end of a significant chapter in the film's production. "Varanasi" has been described as one of the most ambitious and expensive Indian films ever made, with a production budget of $150 million. The film, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, stars Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran alongside Chopra Jonas.
The actress is set to play Mandakini in "Varanasi", a character the director described as having "myriad shades". The first look of Chopra Jonas's character, revealed days before the Varanasi event, showcased her in a yellow saree, confidently holding a gun.
During her time in Varanasi, Chopra Jonas participated in a monumental title launch event for the film. A behind-the-scenes video shared on Instagram offered fans a glimpse into her preparations, including rehearsing her Telugu lines. She also expressed how challenging it was to deliver Telugu lines in front of a live audience compared to doing it for a movie. Demonstrating her commitment to the role, Chopra Jonas confirmed that she will be dubbing her own Telugu lines in the film, stating, "Yes I am. Practising hard".
"Varanasi" is planned to be released as two three-hour movies in 2027 and is filmed for IMAX. The film is a Telugu-language epic action-adventure that draws inspiration from Indian cultural themes. Rajamouli conceived the film as a globe-trotting adventure, and production has taken place in various locations, including Hyderabad, Tanzania, Kenya and Odisha.
The film also stars Mahesh Babu in a dual role as Rudhra, a fierce archaeologist-explorer, and Rama. Prithviraj Sukumaran will play Rana Kumbha, the antagonist.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas's return to Los Angeles likely means a reunion with her husband, Nick Jonas, and their daughter, Malti Marie. The actress often shares glimpses of her personal life on social media, showcasing her ability to balance her career with motherhood.
