Kajol and Twinkle Khanna are addressing the backlash they received after a segment of their talk show, Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle, went viral for comments made about infidelity. The episode, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Karan Johar, sparked heated debate when Kajol, Khanna, and Johar suggested that physical infidelity wasn't necessarily a deal-breaker in a relationship. Kapoor, however, strongly disagreed.
The remarks ignited a firestorm online, with many criticizing Kajol and Khanna for seemingly condoning infidelity. Some social media users expressed disappointment, while a psychologist even weighed in, calling their views a form of "emotional suppression" and a normalization of disrespect. One X user wrote, "They have been so conditioned to accept that as a part of their Bollywood lifestyle that they see it as normal".
In response to the controversy, Kajol and Khanna addressed the issue in a bonus episode of their show. The pair clarified that their comments were intended as lighthearted teasing and that they never meant to offend anyone. Kajol stated, "Now it's time for our next segment, which has gotten us into a lot of trouble. Here opinions don't matter as much as lighthearted teasing".
Khanna added, "And there's a disclaimer, which we should have had from the first episode, that nothing we say in this segment should be taken seriously. Please don't follow any of our advice in this segment". The duo acknowledged that a disclaimer should have been included from the beginning of the show to avoid any misunderstanding.
The controversial segment also touched on whether emotional infidelity was worse than physical infidelity. While Kapoor maintained that both were equally wrong, Kajol, Khanna, and Johar leaned towards emotional infidelity being the greater evil. Khanna flippantly added, "We're in our 50s, she's in her 20s, and she will get into this circle soon. She hasn't seen the things we have seen. Raat gayi baat gayi (What's happened, has happened)".
Other comments from the show that stirred debate included Kajol's suggestion that marriages should have an expiry date with an option for renewal. This remark, made during an episode with Vicky Kaushal and Kriti Sanon, also drew criticism online.
Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle has now concluded its run on Prime Video. The show featured celebrity guests and covered various topics related to relationships and modern life. Despite the backlash, the hosts have urged viewers to take their opinions with a grain of salt and not to follow any advice given on the show.
