Ranveer Singh's upcoming action film, Dhurandhar, has received an 'A' (adults only) certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its release on December 5, 2025. This marks the first time in Singh's 15-year career that one of his films has been rated for adults only. The film, directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, also stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, and Sara Arjun.
The CBFC's decision to grant an 'A' certificate came after requiring some modifications to the film. According to reports, the board muted a cuss word and reduced violent scenes to grant the certificate. The CBFC also requested that the filmmakers add a voiceover for the Hindi disclaimer, which extended the film's duration. Furthermore, anti-drug and anti-smoking disclaimers were added to scenes featuring substance abuse, and a minister's character name was altered.
Dhurandhar has a runtime of 214 minutes, making it one of the longest Indian films in recent years.
Prior to the CBFC's certification, the film faced objections from the family of late Indian soldier Major Mohit Sharma, who filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on its release. The family alleged that the film drew inspiration from Sharma's life and covert operations without their consent. The Delhi High Court directed the CBFC to consider these objections, and the board subsequently undertook a fresh examination of the film. Following the review, the CBFC clarified that Dhurandhar is a "work of fiction" and not based on Major Mohit Sharma's life. The board stated that the film should not be interpreted as a representation of real military history or any decorated officer and found no link to Major Mohit Sharma. The CBFC also stated there was no need to send the movie to Indian Army officials before its release. Similarly, Chaudhary Aslam's widow, Naureen Aslam, also objected to his character's portrayal in the film, threatening legal action if her husband was falsely portrayed.
The film is reportedly inspired by real-life incidents, geopolitical conflicts, and covert operations of India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), particularly Operation Lyari, a government-led crackdown on local gangs and crime syndicates in Karachi, Pakistan. Principal photography for Dhurandhar took place between July 2024 and October 2025, with filming locations including Thailand, Mumbai, Punjab, and Ladakh. The film's soundtrack and score are composed by Shashwat Sachdev and includes vocals by Jasmine Sandlas and a rap segment by Hanumankind. The audio launch took place on December 1, 2025.
