Industry sources indicate that Mohanlal is expected to film for a couple of days starting December 2, for the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial. He will then resume his Malayalam commitments before returning to the Jailer 2 sets from December 21 to 24. A selfie shared by designer Jishad Shamsudheen with Mohanlal on a flight further confirmed the actor's journey to join the Jailer 2 shoot.
Mohanlal is set to reprise his cameo role as Mathew, a gangster and friend to Rajinikanth's character, Muthuvel Pandian. Reports suggest that his role in Jailer 2 will be more significant than in the first film.
The first installment of Jailer was a massive commercial success, grossing approximately ₹650 crore worldwide. The sequel has generated considerable buzz, especially with reports of Vijay Sethupathi beginning his portions in Goa. Actress Ramya Krishnan also shared a glimpse from her first day on set, reprising her role as Vijaya Pandian. The film's shooting began in Chennai on March 10. Mirnaa Menon, who plays Swetha Pandian, Rajinikanth's daughter-in-law, is expected to have a pivotal role in the sequel. Anirudh Ravichander will return as composer. Vinayakan, who played the antagonist Varman in Jailer, has confirmed his presence in the sequel. Other actors, including Shiva Rajkumar, Mithun Chakraborty, and Vidya Balan, are also expected to play significant roles.
Meanwhile, Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph, has wrapped up its shooting schedule. The film sees Mohanlal return as Georgekutty, with Meena, Siddique, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil reprising their roles from the previous films. Murali Gopy and KB Ganesh Kumar, who played police officers in Drishyam 2, are also part of the cast. Filming took place in Thodupuzha, Vagamon and Ernakulam. A video of Mohanlal celebrating the completion of his portions with the crew went viral, showcasing the excitement on set.
Drishyam 3 is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas. Panorama Studios, which produced the Hindi remake of Drishyam, has acquired the Malayalam film's theatrical, overseas, and digital rights. The Drishyam franchise has achieved cult status in Indian cinema for its gripping storytelling and suspense. The first film, released in 2013, was a benchmark in Malayalam cinema, and the sequel, released in 2021, broke viewership records.
Drishyam 3 is slated for a Summer 2026 release and Jailer 2 is expected to be released on June 12, 2026.
