A new cinematic collaboration is on the horizon, with Aamir Khan joining forces with Vir Das for the upcoming project, "Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos". This quirky, offbeat comedy is written and co-directed by Vir Das, who also stars as the titular character, Happy Patel, a bumbling but endearing detective. The film is envisioned as an action-comedy in the style of "Austin Powers" and "Johnny English".
Vir Das revealed that he approached Aamir Khan with the project after winning an Emmy, and Khan immediately came on board as a producer. Khan will also be making a cameo appearance in the film. The cast includes Mona Singh in a bold role as a gangster, marking her third collaboration with Aamir Khan after "3 Idiots" and "Laal Singh Chaddha". Mithila Palkar and Sharib Hashmi are also part of the cast.
Adding to the anticipation, there are reports suggesting that Imran Khan, Aamir Khan's nephew, is making his acting comeback with "Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos". While the makers have not confirmed this, some sources indicate that Imran is involved in the film in some capacity. Imran Khan's return to Bollywood has been eagerly awaited since he took a break from acting after his 2015 film "Katti Batti".
In November 2025, Imran Khan discussed his comeback, mentioning that it felt like a "natural progression" after his divorce. He is also working on another film, a romantic comedy opposite Bhumi Pednekar, directed by Danish Aslam, with whom he previously worked on "Break Ke Baad". This project is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in early 2026.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is also preparing for the release of "Sitaare Zameen Par," a spiritual sequel to his 2007 film "Taare Zameen Par". The film, directed by R.S. Prasanna, stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh and was released on June 20, 2025. "Sitaare Zameen Par" is a sports comedy-drama. Although a sequel to "Taare Zameen Par," it features a new story, situation, and characters. "Sitaare Zameen Par" grossed ₹266 crore worldwide.
Aamir Khan has several other projects in the pipeline under his production banner, including "Lahore 1947" directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Sunny Deol, and a film starring his son Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi.
"Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos" is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2026.
