Marvel Studios is set to re-release "Avengers: Endgame" in theaters on September 25, 2026, ahead of the highly anticipated "Avengers: Doomsday," which is slated for release on December 18, 2026. The re-release aims to build excitement for "Doomsday," and offer fans a chance to revisit the epic conclusion to Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the big screen. However, the length of this theatrical window remains unconfirmed.
"Avengers: Endgame," originally released in 2019, was a global phenomenon, directed by the Russo Brothers, who are also directing "Doomsday". The film brought together iconic superheroes like Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow as they united to defeat Thanos. "Endgame" became the highest-grossing movie ever for a time, earning $2.79 billion worldwide, before "Avatar" reclaimed the spot. In the U.S., "Endgame" grossed $858 million, making it the second-highest-grossing film of all time domestically, behind only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
The re-release highlights Disney's commitment to theatrical releases. It also gives fans the opportunity to see Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man battle Thanos before "Doomsday" arrives, where he will be playing a different character, Doctor Doom.
"Avengers: Doomsday" is shaping up to be a star-studded film, bringing together characters from "Thunderbolts," "Fantastic Four: First Steps," and the X-Men. The cast includes Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Pedro Pascal, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen. Robert Downey Jr. is also set to return, but as Doctor Doom.
Following "Doomsday," Marvel plans to release "Avengers: Secret Wars" in December 2027.
The return of "Endgame" could potentially help the film reclaim its position as the highest-grossing movie of all time. Marvel has seen success with re-releasing films such as "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" and "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith".
The "Endgame" re-release may also feature exclusive scenes or trailers for "Avengers: Doomsday".
