Rhea Chakraborty, the 33-year-old actress, has recently revealed that she is considering freezing her eggs and has consulted a gynaecologist about the procedure. In a conversation with Huma Qureshi on her YouTube channel for her podcast "Chapter 2", Chakraborty discussed the factors influencing her decision, highlighting the pressures women face in their 30s regarding marriage and motherhood.
Chakraborty articulated the internal conflict between her biological clock and her professional ambitions. "It's such a weird place to be," she said, "Your body clock is telling you that you need to have kids, but your mind is telling you, you already have a kid, your brand, your business and you have to nurture that baby". She is currently prioritizing her career and the businesses she is building.
The actress also shared her views on marriage, stating that she does not believe there is a "right age" to get married. She recounted a prior conversation with Humans of Bombay, where she expressed openness to marrying later in life and questioned the societal pressure placed disproportionately on women to marry and have children due to their biological clocks. She finds the disproportionate pressure on women unfair, as men do not experience the same urgency.
Chakraborty takes a pragmatic view of egg freezing, acknowledging that it is "a bit torturous, but please do it because it’s available". She doesn't romanticize the process but sees it as a viable option for women who want to explore their professional opportunities without the immediate pressure of starting a family. She also noted that several of her friends had undergone the procedure in their 20s and 30s.
Her statements have resonated with many women who find themselves navigating similar crossroads, balancing their personal aspirations with biological realities. Chakraborty's openness about considering egg freezing has sparked conversations about the choices women face in their 30s and the evolving attitudes toward marriage and family.
