Actress Rhea Chakraborty recently revealed that she is considering freezing her eggs, sparking a conversation about the pressures women face when balancing career aspirations with biological realities. During a conversation with Huma Qureshi, star of Netflix's "Delhi Crime 3", on her podcast "Chapter 2," Chakraborty, 33, shared that she recently visited a gynecologist to explore the possibility.
"I am 33, and I recently visited a gynaecologist for egg freezing. I am thinking about doing it,” Chakraborty told Qureshi, highlighting a dilemma faced by many women in their 30s. She articulated the internal conflict between her body clock urging her to have children and her mind telling her that her brand and business are her current "babies" that need nurturing.
Chakraborty emphasized that she does not view egg freezing as a romantic decision but rather as a practical option available to women. She acknowledged that the procedure can be "torturous" but encouraged women to consider it if it helps them.
This isn't the first time Chakraborty has spoken about societal expectations around marriage and motherhood. In a previous conversation with Humans of Bombay, she questioned why women face more pressure than men to "settle down". She stated that she does not believe in a "right age" for marriage and is open to marrying later in life. She also challenged the notion that women should feel pressured to marry and start a family solely because of their biological clocks.
Chakraborty also shared that several of her friends in their 20s and 30s have already undergone egg freezing, making her feel more comfortable considering it for herself. She admitted that she feels she has much more to accomplish in her career before starting a family. For now, her focus remains on her professional goals and personal growth. She stated that she would not mind tying the knot in her 40s.
The actress was last seen in the film Chehre and has since returned to television as a gang leader on MTV Roadies. She is currently focusing on her business ventures and her podcast, where she engages in conversations with various celebrities about their personal lives.
