Priyanka Chopra Jonas, in a recent interview at the BRIDGE Summit in Abu Dhabi on December 9, 2025, reflected on the sacrifices she made early in her career to achieve global success. The actress, who debuted in Hindi cinema in 2003, has become a global figure, collaborating with top talents across industries, including Hollywood.
Chopra Jonas opened up about her initial approach to work, stating that she wasn't selective and embraced every opportunity. "When I first started working, I was not selective at all. Whatever work I would get, I would do because it's a privilege to just get work… I would say yes to everything. I was really greedy in my 20s. I wanted to work every day," she said.
The "Fashion" actress then quoted Beyoncé, sharing how she resonated with the singer's sentiments about sacrifice. "Now Beyoncé said this, and I'm going to quote her. I feel like I'm on the other side of my sacrifice. I worked really hard. I missed birthdays. I missed when my father was in the hospital… I missed Christmases, I missed Diwali. I missed time with my family… That time, I needed to work that hard. And that 20-year-old me needed to make those sacrifices for this woman to have the life that I have now," she expressed.
Priyanka's father, Ashok Chopra, a physician in the Indian Army, passed away in June 2013 after a prolonged battle with cancer. He had been diagnosed in 2005 and was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Priyanka was very close to her father and even has a tattoo 'Daddy's lil girl' inked on her wrist. During his illness, she had reportedly put her projects on hold to be by his side.
Reflecting on that period, Chopra acknowledged the personal milestones she missed while building her career. She emphasized that her younger self's dedication and hard work paved the way for the choices she can now make. She sees it as a luxury to be selective about projects now. "I do think it's a luxury… sometimes you've got to hustle. There's no other way around it… having a work ethic, having discipline, and going after it will get you to a point where you can pull back. Now I can choose when I want to say yes, but I couldn't have done that if she hadn't worked so hard. So I thank her a lot sometimes. Thank your younger self," the actress explained.
Looking ahead, Priyanka Chopra will be seen in SS Rajamouli's upcoming film, "Varanasi," alongside Mahesh Babu.
