Akhanda 2: Balakrishna's Highly Anticipated Sequel Finally Gets a Release Date After Unexpected Postponement, Makers Confirm

After an unexpected delay, the makers of "Akhanda 2: Thaandavam" have officially announced the film's theatrical release date as December 12, 2025. Paid premieres are scheduled to take place a day earlier, on December 11.

The film, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, is a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster "Akhanda". The announcement of the release date on December 9 by 14 Reels Plus, comes after the resolution of legal and financial issues that had previously caused the postponement of the film, which was originally slated to release on December 5.

The Madras High Court has cleared the way for the film's release following an internal settlement between Eros International and 14 Reels Plus. A legal dispute involving Eros International Media Limited and 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited in Tamil Nadu, which concerned a long-standing arbitral dispute against 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited amounting to approximately ₹28 crore plus interest, had previously restrained the film's release.

14 Reels Plus shared a new poster on X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the release date, stating, "All set for the Divine Destruction at the box office. Feel the MASSive power of #Akhanda2 in theatres from DECEMBER 12 with grand premieres on December 11th. Bookings open soon!".

The resolution of the legal issues has brought relief to fans and the production team, and the makers are planning to resume the film's promotions ahead of the release. The producers have resubmitted requests for higher ticket pricing and permission to conduct paid premieres in the Telugu states to support the film's commercial prospects after the delay.

"Akhanda 2" is directed by Boyapati Srinu, marking their fourth collaboration after the successes of "Simha," "Legend," and "Akhanda". Balakrishna reprises his dual role, with the Aghora character expected to be a highlight. The film also features Samyuktha Menon, Shamna Kasim, Saswata Chatterjee, Aadhi Pinisetty, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Harshaali Malhotra. S Thaman has composed the music.

"Akhanda 2" will be released in South Indian languages and Hindi. The film has been made on a reported budget of ₹200 crore.

Industry observers are closely watching how these developments might influence the film's box office performance, especially given the heightened expectations after the postponement.
