Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa's latest film, "The Devil X," has been released in theaters across Karnataka on December 11, 2025, amidst a challenging time for the actor, who is currently in jail. Darshan is in custody in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. "The Devil," directed by Prakash Veer, also stars Rachana Rai, Mahesh Manjrekar, Achyuth Kumar, and Sharmiela Mandre.
"The Devil X" has garnered mixed reactions from audiences. While many viewers are praising Darshan's performance and screen presence, some have criticized the film for its stretched plot and average storyline.
Fans took to social media platform X to share their views. Some viewers felt the first half of the movie was slow. One user wrote, "No proper story, Routine presentation, No high moments, Streched Only positive #Darshan Presence,dual roles,Face-off scenes, interval, pre climax Apart from that,feels like regular commercial movie without anything new to offer Disappointed". Another user echoed similar sentiments, describing the first half as a "routine political drama" and suggesting that scenes lacked connection. This user also criticized the costume design and wig selection for Darshan's character. Conversely, some fans have celebrated the film, with one writing, "Went with zero expectations Bro, first half is aramse watchable 2nd is really good and crazy.. Especially with Darshan sir acting, and Ajaneesh sir bgm.. 2nd half nails it in every department and each and everyone". Another user called the movie a banger.
Despite the mixed reviews, Darshan's fans are celebrating the release of "The Devil X" as a festival. Videos circulating on social media show fans dancing and celebrating in theaters.
Ahead of the film's release, Darshan penned a letter from jail, requesting his fans to support "The Devil X". The message was shared on social media by his wife, Vijayalakshmi.
