Karthi's Vaa Vaathiyaar Release Postponed at the Last Minute
In an unexpected turn of events, Karthi's highly anticipated film, Vaa Vaathiyaar, has been postponed from its scheduled release date of December 12, 2025. The decision came just one day before the film's planned worldwide premiere, leaving fans and the film fraternity in shock.
The postponement stems from a legal battle involving the film's producer, KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green, and unpaid debts owed to a business creditor. The Madras High Court has issued a stay order on the film's release until the financial issues are resolved. The court stated that Gnanavel Raja had failed to repay the debt despite repeated opportunities and extensions. The exact amount of debt is reported to be over ₹21 crore.
Prathyangira Cinemas, the USA distributor for Vaa Vaathiyaar, has officially announced the postponement, informing audiences that both the Tamil and Telugu versions (Annagaru Vostaru) will not be released on December 12 as planned. A new release date is expected to be announced soon by the production team.
Vaa Vaathiyaar, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, is an action comedy featuring Karthi and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles. The film also boasts a strong supporting cast, including Sathyaraj and Rajkiran. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music for the film, marking his third collaboration with both director Kumarasamy and actor Karthi.
The film's narrative revolves around a grandson raised to emulate the legendary actor MGR by a fanatic fan. The story explores whether he embraces those ideals or chooses a different path. Karthi plays Ramu, a charismatic and unconventional police officer. Vaa Vaathiyaar promises a blend of humor, romance, and action, characteristic of director Nalan Kumarasamy's style.
Initially, Vaa Vaathiyaar was slated for release in January 2025, during the Pongal week, but was later moved to December 5, 2025. Due to pending post-production work, the release was pushed to December 12. The trailer, which was released on December 6, maintained the December 12 release date, adding to the surprise of the sudden postponement.
The unexpected postponement has drawn comparisons to the delay of Akhanda 2, which also faced similar financial hurdles. Fans and movie enthusiasts have expressed their disappointment over the news and eagerly await an official announcement regarding the new release date.
The film has a runtime of 2 hours and 8 minutes and is classified as a 13 for audiences.
The makers of Vaa Vaathiyaar are now focused on resolving the financial issues to ensure the film's smooth release.
