Mallik comes from a family deeply rooted in the music industry. He is the son of Daboo Malik, a music director, the grandson of Sardar Malik, and the brother of singer Armaan Malik. Amaal began learning music at the age of eight, training in both Western and Indian classical traditions. He started his career assisting established music composers, gaining valuable experience. He debuted as a composer in 2014 with three songs for Salman Khan's Jai Ho. He gained recognition for his work in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.
Despite his family background, Amaal believes he faced "reverse nepotism". He explained that being Daboo Malik's son sometimes led to prejudice. He recalled an instance where he was removed from a studio upon revealing his father's identity. He said he lost opportunities because of this. He noted that he and his brother Armaan were made to feel like outsiders. Amaal said that his father's failures shaped his and Armaan's success.
Amaal shared that his family faced financial difficulties. After his grandfather's death when Amaal was 15, his father quit his career and encouraged Amaal to start earning. Amaal began assisting Raju Singh, composing music for TV serials to support his family. He earned ₹5,000-10,000. He also mentioned that the family had a loan of ₹3.5-4 crore, and they received no support from relatives.
Mallik's participation in Bigg Boss 19 aimed to change his image. He felt the need to share his family's story. He acknowledged the advantages he had but emphasized that his journey was not without obstacles. Amaal described himself as a "product of reverse nepotism".
During his time on Bigg Boss 19, Amaal also spoke about a "mystery girl". He clarified that she was not one of the female contestants on the show. He expressed his feelings for her and assured her of his commitment.
Amaal also addressed claims that Salman Khan, the host of Bigg Boss 19, was biased towards him. Amaal explained his family's association with Salman Khan and suggested that their working relationship might have created that perception. However, Amaal claimed that much of the scolding he received was not shown in the final episodes.
