In a passionate appeal, actor and Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan has urged the government to provide pensions, land, and housing for television actors, particularly those who play character roles. Kishan highlighted the financial struggles faced by many artists in the industry, emphasizing the irregular nature of their work and income.

Speaking at the trailer launch of the film "Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain," an adaptation of the popular television show, Kishan addressed the perceived lack of recognition for television actors compared to their counterparts in Bollywood and other industries. He cited the example of Smriti Irani, a television actress who transitioned into politics and became a Union Minister, as evidence that TV actors are indeed capable and deserving of high positions. He also noted that many TV actors have successfully moved into cinema, winning National Awards and becoming Members of Parliament or Members of the Legislative Assembly.

Kishan revealed that he has introduced a Private Member's Bill in Parliament to address the financial insecurities of many television, film, and side artists. The bill proposes a pension-like scheme, along with provisions for housing or land, for actors who often live an uncertain life due to inconsistent work opportunities. He voiced his concern for character actors who may only have a few lines in a production and struggle to make ends meet, sometimes lacking the resources for medical treatment. "There are times when they run out of money," Kishan stated, emphasizing the urgency of the issue.

Kishan shared that he had discussed the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who he says, deeply respects artists and inspired him to propose such a bill. He also expressed his intention to advocate for the inclusion of a National Award category specifically for television artists, to give national recognition to TV serials.

The bill has been presented in Parliament and is slated for discussion and debate before potential approval. Kishan hopes that this initiative will provide a safety net for struggling artists and ensure they have a secure future. He emphasized that cinema has given him a lot, and it is his duty to give something back to the Hindi cinema. He sees this bill as a way to support the often-overlooked character actors who contribute significantly to the entertainment industry.
