Sanjay Dutt recently shared anecdotes about his life in jail, including how he started a theatre group with fellow inmates, some of whom were convicted of murder. Dutt made these revelations during his appearance on 'The Great Indian Kapil Show' with friend Suniel Shetty.

Dutt's jail term stemmed from the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, where he was found guilty under the Arms Act. He spent around five years in prison, which he has called the most challenging period of his life. During his time, he took on various tasks and initiatives. He earned wages by making chairs and paper bags. He also started a radio program called Radio YCP, which broadcasted within the jail. Inmates contributed to the radio program by preparing scripts, comedy segments, and discussion topics.

Beyond the radio show, Dutt started a drama company within the jail. He served as the director, and his actors were fellow prisoners, including those convicted of murder. He and other prisoners wrote scripts for the plays, which were then performed inside the jail.

Dutt also recounted an unsettling experience where a double murder convict was assigned to shave his beard. He recalled asking the barber how long he had been in jail, to which the man responded, "15 years" for "double murder".

In 2013, plans were made for Dutt and other inmates from Pune’s Yerawada Central Jail to participate in a play as part of a fundraiser for prisoners' welfare. Dutt was expected to act and perform to the song "Lungi Dance" from the film Chennai Express. However, the performance was cancelled due to security concerns after intelligence about a potential terror attack at the venue surfaced.

Despite the hardships he faced, Dutt has expressed no regrets about his life, except for the early loss of his parents. He remains active in the film industry and was recently seen in 'Baaghi 4'.
