Yashvardhan Ahuja, son of Bollywood actor Govinda, was preparing to make his Bollywood debut in the Hindi remake of the Telugu film Baby. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the start of his Bollywood career has been delayed.
Yashvardhan was set to star alongside Babil Khan, son of the late Irrfan Khan, in the Hindi remake of the 2023 Telugu romantic drama Baby. Sai Rajesh, who directed the original Telugu version, was also directing the Hindi remake. The film was scheduled to begin shooting on May 5, 2025.
However, tensions arose after Babil Khan posted an emotional video on Instagram, which was followed by critical public comments from Sai Rajesh. This online disagreement led to Babil Khan leaving the project two weeks later. Babil Khan confirmed his exit on May 17th, stating that "due to unforeseen circumstances, things didn't go ahead as everyone had planned". Sai Rajesh responded by respecting Babil's decision to prioritize self-care.
With Babil Khan's departure, the film's production has been put on hold indefinitely, causing a setback for Yashvardhan Ahuja's Bollywood debut. Producers are now actively searching for a replacement for Babil Khan, a process that could take a considerable amount of time. According to a source close to the production, the makers had spent nearly six months finalizing the female lead, a debutante, and now face the daunting task of recasting the male lead. As of now, there is no confirmed timeline for when production will resume.
The Hindi adaptation of Baby is produced by Madhu Mantena in association with Allu Aravind's Geetha Arts and Sreenivasa Kumar Naidu, who also produced the original Telugu film. Babil Khan was supposed to play the role originally portrayed by Anand Deverakonda, while Yashvardhan Ahuja was to reprise Viraj Ashwin's character.
The original Telugu movie Baby tells the story of two high school sweethearts whose relationship is tested by diverging life paths, temptation, and personal growth. The Hindi remake aims to retain the emotional core of the original, delivering an emotional narrative about the complexities of love and self-discovery.
Yashvardhan Ahuja, who has trained in acting in the UK, had auditioned for the part and secured it based on his merit. Prior to this project, Yashvardhan has worked as an assistant director in films like Dishoom, Kick 2, and Tadap.
While the film is still said to be in the works, Yashvardhan Ahuja's Bollywood debut has been put on hold.
