The galaxy far, far away is about to get a little more thrilling with the addition of Mia Goth to the cast of Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars film, "Star Wars: Starfighter." Goth will be joining Ryan Gosling in this standalone adventure, which is slated to begin production this fall and hit theaters on May 28, 2027.

While details about the plot are still emerging, "Star Wars: Starfighter" is set approximately five years after the events of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker." Levy has emphasized that this film will be a completely new story, unrelated to the Skywalker saga, exploring a period of time that hasn't been delved into on film or television yet. The film will introduce new characters, with Gosling reportedly playing a character tasked with protecting a young charge.

Goth is set to play one of the villains pursuing Gosling's character and his young ward. The role was initially considered for Mikey Madison, but the deal fell through, reportedly due to financial disagreements.

The announcement of "Star Wars: Starfighter" at Star Wars Celebration in Japan earlier this year generated significant excitement. Levy has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it is no longer just a Star Wars movie in development, but a Star Wars movie they are actively making. Gosling has also praised the script, adding to the anticipation surrounding the film.

Mia Goth's casting adds an intriguing element to the project. Known for her captivating and often unsettling performances in films like the "X" trilogy ("X," "Pearl," and "MaXXXine"), "Suspiria," and "A Cure for Wellness," Goth has established herself as a force in the horror and thriller genres. Her ability to portray complex and intense characters makes her a compelling choice for a villainous role in the Star Wars universe.

"Star Wars: Starfighter" will be the first Star Wars theatrical release following "The Mandalorian and Grogu," which is scheduled to premiere on May 22, 2026.

Goth has several other high-profile projects on the horizon. She will be appearing in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," currently in production, and Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein," expected to release this November.
