Adam Brody, known for his roles in "The O.C.," "Shazam!," and "Promising Young Woman," recently revealed a surprising audition from his early career days. During a roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, alongside fellow comedians Ted Danson, Seth Rogen, Julio Torres, John Mulaney, and Jason Segel, Brody shared that he "tried real hard" to land a role on the beloved children's show "Blue's Clues."

Brody reminisced about his early days in Los Angeles, stating, "I really wanted 'Blue's Clues' early on when I first moved to L.A." He recalled the 1999 audition, saying, "I auditioned for it, I wanted it, I didn't get it. But I would've loved it. It's a show for toddlers. But it's all of those early ones." When Rogen inquired if he "fought for it," Brody affirmed that he indeed "tried really hard" to secure the part.

Ultimately, the role went to Steve Burns, who became the original host of "Blue's Clues" when it premiered on Nick Jr. in 1996. Burns later departed in 2002 and was succeeded by Donovan Patton and Joshua Dela Cruz, the current host.

Brody also shared another audition experience from his early career. He revealed that he auditioned for the role of Henry Parker on the teen drama "Dawson's Creek," a role that eventually went to Michael Pitt. Brody recounted feeling nervous during his read-along with Scott Speedman.

Despite missing out on "Blue's Clues," Brody's career took off in 2003 when he landed the role of Seth Cohen on "The O.C." The series, which aired for three seasons, gained him widespread recognition. More recently, Brody has garnered acclaim for his role in the Netflix romantic comedy series "Nobody Wants This," even earning his first Golden Globe nomination and being considered an Emmy contender.

Currently, Brody is involved in the second season of "Nobody Wants This," scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 23, 2025.
