Anupam Kher recently experienced what he describes as the "most memorable moment" of his 40-year career at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Pune. The veteran actor and filmmaker was invited to screen his latest directorial venture, "Tanvi The Great," for over 2500 cadets and officers. The film received a standing ovation, leaving Kher deeply moved and expressing immense gratitude.
Kher shared his experience on social media, posting videos and photos from the event. He described the NDA as one of the finest institutions in the world, praising its exceptional training, facilities, coaching, discipline, and dedication. Kher also expressed his honor and privilege to deliver a motivational lecture to the cadets during his visit.
"Tanvi The Great" marks Kher's return to direction after over two decades. The film tells the story of Tanvi Raina, a young woman with autism who dreams of joining the Indian Army. The cast includes Boman Irani and debutant Shubhangi Dutt, who plays the lead role. The film also features Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, Nasser, and British actor Iain Glen. The film is produced by Anupam Kher Studios in association with NFDC.
The screening at NDA was the first in India. According to Kher, when Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, Comdt, NDA, told the cadets they could react to the movie as they wished, the entire Habibullah Auditorium erupted in thunderous applause. Kher stated he only had tears of joy and gratitude and that the hardships, heartbreaks, tough times, disappointments, and difficulties faced at Anupam Kher Studio were worth it. He acknowledged the uncertainties regarding the film's future but emphasized that the present moment was like the brightest sunshine.
Kher expressed that when more than 2500 cadets and officers of the Armed Forces stood up to applaud "Tanvi The Great," it felt like a blockbuster moment. He thanked Admiral Singh, all the officers and their families, and the young cadets for giving wings to "Tanvi" and conveyed his pride and humility.
Prior to the screening, Kher had lauded the NDA for its exceptional standards and shared how he learned valuable lessons about life and living during his time there. He also expressed his gratitude to Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, Maj Gen Sanjeev Dogra, all the officers, staff, and cadets for their hospitality and appreciation. He had described his visit as a "life-changing experience".
"Tanvi The Great" was released in cinemas worldwide on July 18, 2025. The film's first song, "Sena Ki Jai," composed by Oscar-winner MM Keeravani, with lyrics by Kausar Munir and vocals by Shagun Sodhi, was unveiled earlier in the day of the screening.
