Vikrant Massey recently revealed that he and his wife, Sheetal, chose to leave the religion column blank on their son Vardaan's birth certificate. The actor, known for his roles in 12th Fail and other Bollywood films, shared this personal decision during a conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast. Massey explained that he believes religion is a personal choice and that he doesn't want his son to be raised with any biases based on religion or caste.
Massey emphasized the importance of individual choice when it comes to faith. He stated, "I think everyone has the right to choose their religion". He further elaborated on his view that religion is "man-made". Massey himself comes from a multi-faith family. His father is Christian, his mother is Sikh, and his brother converted to Islam at the age of 17. Massey is married to Sheetal, who is from a Rajput Thakur family. Despite the diverse religious backgrounds in his family, Massey has said that he has a strong faith in God.
Massey said that his family proudly celebrates all religions. He noted that they celebrate Eid at their friends' houses, Christmas with his father, and Gurupurab. He also mentioned that they had a namkaran ceremony for Vardaan and that they have a temple in their house. In his conversation with Rhea Chakraborty, Massey recounted receiving Vardaan's birth certificate and personally putting a dash in the religion column. He clarified that the government does not require parents to state a religion on the birth certificate; it is a personal choice. Massey said he would be heartbroken if his son were to treat anyone differently based on their religious practices. He reiterated that he is raising his son to be free of religious or caste-based biases, instilling in him empathy and equality.
Massey also spoke about how he faced intense questioning on social media when he discussed his beliefs in the past. He said that it did affect him. Massey's decision to leave the religion column blank on his son's birth certificate reflects his personal beliefs about faith and his desire to raise his son in an inclusive environment.
On the work front, Vikrant Massey will be seen in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, which is set to release on July 11, 2025. He stars opposite Sanjay Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor.
