Shah Rukh Khan's fans are eagerly awaiting news about his upcoming film, "King," and recent activity from director Siddharth Anand has fueled speculation that a release date announcement is imminent. Anand, who previously collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan on the blockbuster "Pathaan," has been posting cryptic messages on X (formerly Twitter), reminiscent of his build-up to the film's initial announcement.
On January 17th, Anand posted "And," followed by "the date" on January 18th, leading many to believe that the full release date would be revealed on January 20th.
"King," an action drama, has been in the spotlight despite minimal updates from its makers. The film is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures.
While some reports suggest a potential September 2026 release, a late 2026 release appears more likely, given that filming is nearing completion, leaving ample time for post-production. An early 2027 release hasn't been ruled out either.
The movie "King" is directed by Siddharth Anand. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Shah Rukh Khan, his daughter Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Arshad Warsi, Abhay Verma, Jackie Shroff, and Raghav Juyal. Suhana Khan's role marks her theatrical debut. Initial reports suggested Shah Rukh Khan would play an extended cameo, but it was later confirmed to be a full-fledged role. Shah Rukh will play a deadly assassin, and Suhana will play his protege.
The film is reportedly inspired by the 1994 French film "Léon: The Professional". The movie's soundtrack is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
The first glimpse of "King" was revealed on November 2, Shah Rukh Khan's 60th birthday. The title reveal video showcased Shah Rukh in a new avatar with a silver haircut and glimpses of action sequences. The film is described as a "slick, high-octane action entertainer".
