Netflix is gearing up to release its highly anticipated romantic comedy, "Boyfriend on Demand," starring Jisoo of BLACKPINK and Seo In Guk, on March 6. Directed by Kim Jung Sik, known for his work in "Work Later, Drink Now" and "No Gain No Love", the series promises a blend of humor, romance, and a touch of fantasy.
"Boyfriend on Demand" explores the life of Seo Mi Rae, portrayed by Jisoo, an overworked webtoon producer who is exhausted by both her professional and romantic life. Seeking an escape, she subscribes to a virtual dating simulation service, offering her the chance to experience dreamlike dates with ideal partners in a virtual world. This service, also called "Boyfriend on Demand," provides emotional highs and a tempting alternative for those too busy or burned out for real-life dating.
Seo In Guk plays Park Kyeong Nam, Mi Rae's colleague and rival webtoon producer. Despite his competence, Mi Rae feels uneasy around him, with his cold demeanor masking surprising secrets that are set to stir emotions. The series will follow Mi Rae as she navigates the blurred lines between virtual affection and genuine connection, questioning whether love can truly be designed on demand.
The series also features cameos by Seo Kang Jun, Lee Soo Hyuk, Kim Young Dae, and Lee Jae Wook, who will play the roles of Mi Rae's virtual boyfriends.
Jisoo described the series as both escapist and emotionally grounded, noting that her character will encounter real-world problems and gradually grow through the process. She believes the series can provide viewers with a fluttering feeling by proxy, especially for those exhausted by the repetition of everyday life. Seo In Guk highlighted the show's unique structure, showcasing romance in both virtual reality and real life.
"Boyfriend on Demand" is written and directed by Kim Jung-sik. The series will have 10 episodes, each lasting approximately 60 minutes.
The release of "Boyfriend on Demand" marks Jisoo's latest venture into acting, following her roles in "Snowdrop" and "Newtopia". Jisoo also has other projects lined up, including the movie "The Prophet: Omniscient Reader". Seo In Guk will also be starring in the dramas "Back to Work" and "Twelve".
