Arjun Kapoor: Film Sets Offered Therapeutic Comfort After the Loss of His Mother, Providing Solace.

Arjun Kapoor has spoken about how returning to a film set shortly after the death of his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, was a therapeutic experience for him. His mother passed away in March 2012, just 45 days before the release of his debut film, Ishaqzaade. In a recent interview, Kapoor reflected on this difficult period, revealing that he used work as a coping mechanism to deal with his grief.

"My mother passed away in March 2012, and my film released 45 days later. I was mourning and celebrating at the same time," Kapoor shared. "I became a star overnight, but I was only running away from my pain".

Kapoor has been open about the impact his mother's death had on his life. He described her as his "backbone" and the strongest emotional anchor after his parents separated in 1995. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kapoor opened up about starting therapy and dealing with depression. "I started therapy last year. I didn't even know I was depressed. I just knew something wasn't working. I stopped enjoying films – and cinema is my life," he said.

In addition to dealing with the loss of his mother, Kapoor has also been candid about his struggles with obesity and mental health. He revealed that losing 50 kilos was a mental battle as much as a physical one and that it took him four years. Speaking at the FICCI Young Leaders Summit in Mumbai, Kapoor stressed the importance of prioritizing mental health and seeking therapy without hesitation. "There's nothing wrong with being vulnerable. The strongest people are those who can acknowledge their emotions," he stated. He also added, "When you talk openly, you realize how smart and sensible you are. You just need an outlet — and therapy gives you that. I want people to feel safe talking about it".

Kapoor has also spoken about the responsibility he felt towards his sister, Anshula, after their mother's passing. "Mum passed away, my only thought was how will I take care of her? I was prepared to take care of myself, how I would take care of Anshula? It's like having a child when you're least prepared," he said. He expressed immense pride in his sister, who he says sacrificed a career in the US to be with him during that difficult time.

Despite the personal challenges he has faced, Arjun Kapoor has continued to work in the film industry, finding solace and purpose in his profession. He has also become an advocate for mental health awareness, encouraging others to seek help and embrace vulnerability. In a recent post on Instagram on his mother's birthday, Kapoor shared a heartfelt message: "Happy birthday Maa, I miss u so much today… Life's been kinda cruel to me lately but it's ok… I've taken the punches before, I'll take them again & still rise… Because u taught me how to fight by standing up facing life head on while being graceful & dignified thru it all…". The post resonated with many fans and members of the film fraternity, who showed their support and solidarity.

Kapoor's journey reflects resilience in the face of profound loss and a commitment to using his platform to promote mental well-being.
