Priscilla Presley Shares Insights: What Elvis Would Be Doing Today, His Love for Singing, If He Were Alive

Priscilla Presley has recently shared her thoughts on what Elvis Presley would be doing if he were alive today. In an interview with Hello! Magazine, the 80-year-old actress and businesswoman, who was promoting her new memoir, "Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis," stated that she believes Elvis would still be singing and touring. "I think he'd be doing the same thing in life – singing and touring. He loved it,” she said. Elvis would have turned 91 on January 8, 2026.

Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42. The initial autopsy report cited "cardiac arrhythmia" as the cause of death. However, Dr. Jerry Francisco, the Shelby County coroner, later confirmed that Elvis died of "hypertensive heart disease, with coronary artery heart disease as a contributing factor," according to the New York Times.

Priscilla and Elvis were married on May 1, 1967, and divorced six years later in 1973. Despite their divorce, they remained close. Priscilla ensured that their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, spent quality time with her father, often bringing her to his performances and to Graceland. "We always remained friendly and would still get together," Priscilla said. "We still cared for each other, he [was] fun to be with".

Priscilla's new memoir explores both the "wonderful times and difficult times" of her life with Elvis. Writing the book was an emotional journey for her, taking over 11 months to complete. "You remember a lot of things, and it was a good thing, to be honest," she explained. "A lot of remembering wonderful times and difficult times — and you're reliving your life".

Elvis Presley's legacy continues to thrive with recent news including Graceland headed for a foreclosure auction. Additionally, Oprah Winfrey recently sat down with Elvis Presley's granddaughter, Riley Keough, for her first in-depth interview since the death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley.
