Shah Rukh Khan fans, mark your calendars! It appears that the highly anticipated action thriller "King," starring Shah Rukh Khan alongside his daughter Suhana Khan, is eyeing a Christmas 2026 release. While an official announcement is expected soon, reports indicate that distributors and exhibitors have been informed of the potential December 25, 2026 release date.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, known for his work in "Pathaan," "King" is produced by Gauri Khan, Siddharth Anand, and Mamta Anand under Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures. The film marks Suhana Khan's theatrical debut after her appearance in "The Archies" (2023).
The movie has generated considerable buzz, topping IMDb's list of most anticipated Indian movies of 2026. A teaser, launched on Shah Rukh Khan's 60th birthday on November 2, 2025, went viral, showcasing the actor in a salt-and-pepper look.
Originally, the project was conceived with Suhana Khan in the lead role and Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo, under the direction of Sujoy Ghosh. However, the project evolved, leading to Siddharth Anand taking over as director and Shah Rukh Khan taking on a more prominent role.
"King" reportedly follows the story of a seasoned assassin, played by Shah Rukh Khan, who mentors his daughter, portrayed by Suhana Khan. The film also stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan as the main antagonist, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi and Rani Mukerji in supporting roles. Other cast members include Raghav Juyal, Abhay Verma, Saurabh Shukla, Jaideep Ahlawat and Akshay Oberoi.
Principal photography commenced in May 2025, with filming taking place in Mumbai and Warsaw. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the film's soundtrack and musical score. The film is being made on a budget of ₹350 crore.
The Christmas release date is considered strategic, allowing a 45-day gap between "King" and Nitesh Tiwari's "Ramayana" to maximize box office potential for both films.
