Saiyami Kher Reflects on a Decade of Dedication: Celebrating 10 Years at the Mumbai Marathon

Mumbai, January 19, 2026 – Actress and fitness enthusiast Saiyami Kher celebrated a decade of participation in the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM). For Kher, the marathon marks a deeply personal milestone, holding immense emotional value as the starting point of her journey in endurance sports.

Kher, a passionate runner and accomplished Ironman triathlete, ran her first full 42.2 km marathon at TMM ten years ago. This experience shaped her love for endurance sports, leading her to complete two Ironman 70.3 races.

"Completing ten years at the Mumbai Marathon feels incredibly special because this is where my running journey began," Kher shared. "My very first race was a full 42.2 km here, and that one start line went on to take me through so many finish lines in life. It took me all the way to completing two Ironman 70.3 races and truly beginning my endurance sport journey. Over the years, no matter how hectic shoots got or how tough training felt, showing up at this race has always grounded me."

The 21st edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon took place on January 18, 2026. Ethiopian runners Tadu Abate and Yeshi Chekole won the men's and women's elite races, respectively. Kartik Karkera and Sanjivani Jadhav won the Indian elite men's and women's races, respectively. The marathon drew a massive crowd of over 65,000 runners.

Kher also acknowledged the growing fitness movement in India, particularly among women. "What makes it even more beautiful today is seeing how many people, especially women, have taken up running and fitness as a way of life," she said. "It's inspiring to watch India move towards a healthier lifestyle." She also emphasized the importance of environmental consciousness, advocating for cleaner air for outdoor activities. "I only hope we take equally serious steps to protect our environment and clean up our air, because staying fit should also mean being able to breathe clean, safe air while we do it," she added.

Known for balancing her acting career with intense physical training, Kher champions fitness as a long-term commitment. She believes running has taught her patience, resilience, and self-belief. "Ten years of TMM is a reminder of how far that very first step has carried me,” Kher summed up.

This year's marathon saw over 2,400 medical cases, with 27 hospitalizations due to dehydration or injuries, but no fatalities were reported. The event highlighted various social causes and creative costumes, with participants emphasizing the city's vibrant spirit and the joy of community running. Aamir Khan, along with his family, participated in the Dream Run.

The Mumbai Marathon continues to be a significant event, promoting health, fitness, and community engagement.
